Review: Ramadan Iftar At Le Méridien PJ (2025)

Checking out Ramadan Iftar at Le Méridien PJ before getting a ticket? Here’s a review of mine, written after I actually dined at the place.

I actually paid for the ticket myself, so I can write what I like and don’t like. Read on – you’ll get a fair review of pros and cons here.

Booking

Booking is much better than my experience in other Iftar places. You can book for things straight out from the website.

Just be careful when you book – Le Méridien hosts two seperate iftar events, one at its restaurant (Pasar Baru), and the other at its ballroom.

I booked tickets for the ballroom iftar, as the Pasar Baru ones were not available.

After booking your seats, I then reach out over WhatsApp, and confirm the date where I will be coming up to dine.

Parking

Le Méridien PJ shares the same building as Paradigm Mall PJ, which means parking is aplenty.

Once you arrive at the mall, you should see signboards that point you to ‘Hotel’, simply follow the signboard and you should reach Paradigm Mall’s underground parking.

Follow the signs further and you should end up parking near the hotel underground entrance. I suggest parking at the Yellow zone for easy access.

If you are coming here with other transports, ask to be dropped at the main entrance. Stand facing the mall entrance, and the hotel lobby is on your right side.

Going In

At the hotel lobby, catch the lift to go to the 2nd floor. Both Pasar Baru restaurant and Ballroom are here.

Once you come out from the lift area:

  • Turn left if you are going to Pasar Baru. There should be quite a number of staff waiting to take you to your table.
  • Turn right, and walk along a covered bridge to the ballroom. The bridge is nicely AC-ed, so no worries about sweat!

Once arrived, I spent about 5 minutes queueing up to check for my seat. The staff then gives me a wristband to wear, before the usher brings me to my table.

Overall, efficient and easy, without too much fuss.

Dining Atmosphere

Ramadan Iftar At Le Méridien PJ

The tables were well laid, with proper seating and covers. The place is bright, and the crowd generally were well dressed to the iftar. I saw however, several that turn out in jerseys, jeans, sling bags and slippers.

As I dined, there is a band playing Raya-themed songs to liven up the Iftar atmosphere. Not too bad.

Kambing-ness Overload

The first thing I noticed as I walk ino Ramadan Iftar at Le Méridien PJ is the smell of kambing bakar.

While the kambing bakar smell is nice in the beginning, but as I queue and walked around the food section, I start to think its a bit overbearing.

In fact, it is so strong I could not really smell other things, be it the sup daging, shawarma, or ayam golek station.

If you don’t like the kambing smell, you would probably find this difficult to handle. The hotel may want to consider installing some kind of indoor exhaust hood to manage this in the future.

Crowd

The crowd is rather large here at Ramadan Iftar at Le Méridien PJ, which to me gives a vibe of going to an expo instead of a nice, relaxed kenduri.

In fact, when I start to see people forming a rather long line for their food, it does feel like I’m going to an expo, lining up to get my merchandise signed by someone.

There’s also situation where certain stations were crowded, I can see people pushing in to reach their food. Not too civilised huh?

This is a far cry from the relaxed, easy atmosphere I enjoyed over Iftar at KL Tower. To rub salt to the wound, the prices are not too different either.

Perhaps dining over at Pasar Baru Restaurant would be much better.

Accommodating Staff

But one good thing about Ramadan Iftar at Le Méridien PJ is that the staff is accommodating, even to my very specific request.

I was given a seat right by the entrance door, where people were constantly moving in and out. To me, this is not acceptable.

I asked for a table swap, and was duly accommodated by the supervisor, Shafeeq (I hope I got your name right!) This is something I appreciate.

I however, would like to see the staff being better trained. Some speaks little English it seems, and can be seen showing that ‘I don’t care’ and ‘you are a nuisance’ face to the diners.

Again, a far cry from the hospitality I enjoyed at KL Tower.

Perhaps its the volume of diners coming, or maybe these are temporary staff members, but I think they can do better.

Ramadan Iftar At Le Méridien PJ

One good thing about the Ramadan Iftar at Le Méridien PJ ballroom is the range of food on offer. I suppose they can do this because of the crowd size.

Expect to see all the food you would expect to see at a Ramadan Iftar here, plus more:

  • Satay, Lemang, Rendang, Ketupat,
  • Sup daging, bihun and mee sup,
  • Kambing bakar, nasi beriani,
  • 4 gulai kawah dishes,
  • Shawarma,
  • Northern Indian fairs (Ghee rice, butter chicken, varuvals)
  • Chinese dishes (claypot Yee Mee, spring rolls, fried rice and noodles, etc)
  • Grilled seafood (kerang, udang, fishes, etc)
  • Goreng tidbits (pisang goreng, cekodok, mini churros)
  • Kuihs and desserts

Must Try Food

Here’s some of the dishes I enjoyed during Ramadan Iftar at Le Méridien PJ:

Sup Daging

You basically get a base broth thats probably cooked with beef or mutton, and you can then choose your meat:

  • Beef cubes,
  • Strips of beef stomach, or
  • Shredded chicken.

I enjoyed the soup immensely, it is rich in flavor, and has a tinge of spice in it, but not to the point where it masks the ‘beefiness’ and ‘kambing-ness’ of the soup.

The beef cubes however, were dry and chewy. Cutting them into smaller cubes may help here.

Daging Tetel

The daging tetel is part of the Gulai kawah dishes. Theres also Kari Kepala Ikan, Asam Pedas Ekor Lembu, Rendang Ayam, and Pucuk Paku Masak Lemak.

The daging is soft, with the right balance of fat and meat. They go well with the fluffy white rice, and the Pucuk Paku Masak Lemak too.

Ayam Rendang

The Ayam rendang is also part of the gulai kawah dishes. I actually sampled mine with rice, and some lemang.

The kuah/gravy is good, well seasoned and has that rich balance I seek. It also sticks well to the rice and lemang too, especially when I dip my lemang into it.

My concern is the size of the chicken cubes. They are a little too big, which means the inside of the chicken does not get the flavors from the rendang, and becomes dry and tasteless.

Cutting into small cubes will help immensely here.

Air Bandung

The Air Bandung they make here is one of the milkiest, and creamiest I ever enjoyed.

I like milk, which means I find this excellent. I however, understand this is not for everyone.

If air bandung does not strike your fancy, theres plenty of other drinks too, like juices, asam boi, plain water, and more.

Tepung Pelita

The Tepung pelita is well made. The texture is soft, yet it holds itself well.

The pandan layer is sweet, but not too overbearing, while the santan layer is rich, with a bit of saltiness. The balance between sweet, salty and richness is very well done.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Tepung Pelita, I ended up having three, while sipping my Americano for dessert.

Being able to enjoy espresso-based coffee is great here, unlike what I experienced at Marriot Putrajaya. I have to pay RM20 on top of my Iftar ticket to get my cup of Americano!

Extras

You get additional offers too if you come for Iftar at Le Méridien PJ:

Takeaway – You can actually take away some of the Iftar food, starting 9.30 if I am not wrong. pay RM15 for a pack, and enjoy the food for your Sahur.

Durian Buffet – There’s also an option to go for Durian buffet after the Iftar, probably to cater to the Moreh crowd. Pay RM35 per person, and eat till you drop.

Ramadan Iftar At Le Méridien PJ

Overall, Ramadan Iftar at Le Méridien PJ is a mixed experience for me.

I dined here last Ramadan too (2024), and it seems that the experience this year improved in some way, although I think the crowd size needs to be controlled.

Either reduce the crowd size, or have more stations for the popular dishes to reduce traffic problems.

This should be a nice place to bring your staff or team over for Iftar, but I may not recommend it for family or dating couples – the expo-like vibe may not work in your favor.
